Lovaeta Amoako : The Excellence Behind LOCnificent

Ultimately the goal of it was to create a space where people with locs, people who appreciate locs, or people who just appreciate culture, can feel seen, heard and have a space to have fun. I think at the core, one of the main things is that LOCnificent, unlike other hair events, expos, we wanna bring joy and we wanna bring fun.
Some entrepreneurs set out to build businesses. Others discover their purpose along the way. For Lovaeta Amoako, that purpose became LOCnificent, New York City's premier cultural platform celebrating locs, natural hair, and the global Black diaspora. As a cultural curator and community builder, she has transformed what began as a passion project into a thriving movement that brings together culture, creativity, and connection.
LOCnificent was established in 2018 and was originally intended to be a one-time loc appreciation event. Over the past two years, LOCnificent expanded by adding educational and empowerment components through panel discussions held before the main event. Amoako explained that entrepreneurship was never part of her original career plans. However, she has successfully created a remarkable cultural experience.
The event also features Black-owned businesses, including vendors from other states and occasionally from outside the United States. Amoako emphasized that one of the organization's greatest accomplishments is creating a sense of home and belonging for attendees. It also creates a space where people with locs, people who appreciate locs, and people who appreciate culture can feel seen, heard, and celebrated.

That simple yet powerful phrase, shared by Amoako, has become a guiding principle throughout her entrepreneurial journey. Her story is deeply rooted in her African American and Ghanaian heritage. Amoako reminds Coffea and its audience to stay connected to their purpose and remain consistent in pursuing it. According to her, that commitment is one of the keys to long-term success.
